What Is "Battle of the Books?" Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for 4th grade students. The purpose of the program is to encourage recreational reading, to offer a variety of types of literature, to increase familiarity with different authors, and to share books through written and oral expression. Battle competitions are held in March and April at the class, school, and district level.
